Our garden area - ready for its makeover! Here at Fairmead we have a lovely designated garden area, but over time it has become a bit shabby around the edges and we want to get it back to a blooming amazing sensory area for not just the students, but also for staff and parents to enjoy. Here are some photos of the current state! We will use these as a reminder of how far we have come with the transformation!

Skool Beanz sign To think about how we'd like to use the space, during September 2024, the school council visited the skool beans allotments and saw some amazing ideas for our garden. Here are some photos from our visit of the fun ideas we saw.

Inspiration: Skool Beanz Allotment Following our visit to the Skool Beanz allotment - here are some ideas we have come up with to transform our garden... New raised planting beds alongside greenhouse where bark mulch is. Pagoda to be repaired and repainted in bright colours Round 4-seater picnic tables x 5 across middle of paving with bright coloured parasols Large planters around the tables which will eventually have either low height trees or large shrubs in A painted mural along base of greenhouse (tbc) Raised beds along fence line as we have nowhere to dig direct into any soil - so everything needs to be large pots / raised beds. Our garden - awaiting its transformation.

Some of our KS4 students came together with students at Yeovil College as part of an exciting art project called Nature Calling which aims, by working with lots of schools and community groups, to build a huge giant in our local landscapes based on the game of consequences. Last week students met with local artists and members of Dorset National Landscapes.  We explored the Cerne Abbas giant, looking at the local landscape and wildlife for inspiration. This Tuesday the artists visited Fairmead and students played a game of consequences, a game where each person draws a head, the page is folded, the paper is passed on and in turn a body, legs and feet are added by different drawers.  Finally the art work is revealed, as you can see we had some wonderfully creative creatures! On Thursday the students went to Kingcombe Visitors Centre to create pieces of art using natural materials.  A fun time was had by all and some fantastic artwork made to be included in the final giant’s head. The giant will be revealed in September, firstly at Cerne Abbas (next to the chalk giant), it will then come to Yeovil, Summerhouse Hill and then move on to Corfe Castle.
