At Fairmead School, the house team system - featuring Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, plays a vital role in building a strong, supportive school community. More than just a tradition, these teams encourage teamwork, healthy competition, and a sense of belonging among young people.

Each house team represents shared values such as respect, resilience, determination, and kindness. By participating in house activities, from sports events to academic challenges, young people develop confidence, leadership skills, and positive relationships with peers across different year groups.

The house teams create an inclusive environment where every young person has a chance to shine, contribute, and feel proud of their team. Whether it’s cheering each other on or working together towards a common goal, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn reflect the spirit of Fairmead - where every effort counts and every voice matters.

Y

oung people in Year 10 and Year 11 can stand for the positions of house captain and vice-captain. The entire school participates in the election by voting for their representatives, who will lead and support their house teams.

At Fairmead, all staff and young people are assigned to one of the four house teams.

During the special mention assembly each week, the house with the most points is announced, and at the end of each term, the winning house is awarded a trophy.

Rewards

Staff can give out points for positive behaviours — but they have a limit each week. These points are allocated to the young person, and inadvertently, the house that they belong to. Mr Simmons stocks and runs the e-Praise shop which young people can access to spend their points on small items that they like.

In Special Mention Assembly on a Friday, there are certificates for the young person and class group who have received the most ePraise points and the teachers and support staff who have given the most ePraise points that week.

Headteacher award

A Headteacher's Award is a form of recognition given by the headteacher to young people for their outstanding achievements or positive behaviours. This award can be given for various reasons, such as academic excellence, exceptional effort, or demonstrating positive values and behaviours. The award is sent home in the post to celebrate the young person’s accomplishments and encourage others to strive for similar achievements.
