Work Experience
Work Experience has become a real strength over the last few years with increasing numbers of young people accessing work experience placements, independently, and for longer periods of time. Our approach remains flexible and provides young people in secondary with the opportunity to start accessing individual placements from year 9 onwards. We assess this work readiness in school following our 3Ps approach and when young people are regularly demonstrating these skills they meet with our work experience coordinator to begin the next step.

Work experience placements can be for a few days, a block week or for longer periods, one or more days a week over the academic year. This approach allows us to best meet the needs of the young people and help prepare them for their future at work. Our work experience coordinator works with young people and their families to plan these placements working with the Southwest Work Experience Partnership.
Recent placements have included a care home, a gym, a café, schools, a factory, a shop, a nursery, a country park, a hairdressers and a carpentry workshop.

My Journey for Work Experience - Delivered as part of a work experience assembly.
"Hi my name is Freddy and I do work experience at Birchfield primary school. I enjoy it so much. The things I do at Birchfield is scanning on the photocopier, delivering bagels and sorting files out to help the staff. I enjoy going there because it is fun and it is good to do work experience so it can give you an idea for when you are older. The best thing about it is I get my own badge saying my name on it.
I also go to forest school for my other work experience with Badgers and Deer class. I enjoy going to forest school because I want to learn new skills. I learn how to make a fire and tie ropes and cut firewood. I enjoy it so much I would like to be a forest school teacher when I am older. So, if you are year 10 or 11 go and speak to Mrs Chorley and she will help you with finding work experience you would like to do."
