Our school has been a cornerstone of special education in the region for over six decades. Established in 1964, we have consistently evolved to meet the needs of students with moderate learning difficulties and children with Autism.
151 young people on roll, 105 boys and 46 girls.
67 young people in primary and 84 in secondary.
100% of young people have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
50% of young people are eligible for Pupil Premium.
7.2% of young people with English as an additional language (EAL).
3% of young people are Children Looked After (in the care of the Local Authority).
Young people with an autism diagnosis
84 young people have an autism diagnosis this equates to 54%.
70% of our primary cohort have an autism diagnosis.
40% of our secondary cohort have an autism diagnosis.
We recognise that there are young people in our school who do not have a formal diagnosis (they may or may not be on a pathway or undertaking a diagnosis).
Milestones in Our History

1964: Fairmead School was founded to provide specialised education for children with learning difficulties.

2014: The school received a 'Good' rating in its Ofsted inspection, reflecting its commitment to quality education.

2021: A significant development occurred with the opening of the Sycamore Building, a £6.85 million facility funded by Somerset County Council. This expansion included six new classrooms, replacing six older ones, and added a state-of-the-art sports facility. The Princess Royal officially opened the building, marking a new chapter in the school's growth.

2024: Fairmead School celebrated its 60th anniversary with a community event featuring music, food and games - raising money for a sensory garden project.
