October 6th was National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, and P proudly came into school wearing green to help raise awareness. She spoke to her class about Cerebral Palsy, sharing her experiences and helping her classmates learn more about what it means to live with Cerebral Palsy. The rest of the class listened respectfully, showed their support and asked lots of thoughtful and interesting questions. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to learn, understand and celebrate what makes each of us unique. 💚

Last week, Class 2 took their learning outside the classroom and headed into town for an exciting scavenger hunt! The young people worked to find a variety of different items around town. It was a fantastic opportunity to put their observation skills to the test, work together as a team and explore their local community. One of the most exciting parts of the trip was practising our speaking and listening skills. The young people had the chance to speak to shop staff and politely ask for help when they needed it. They showed great confidence and enthusiasm when approaching the staff, asking questions and listening carefully to their responses. It was wonderful to see them putting their classroom learning into practice in a real-life situation. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication and independence throughout the trip. A big well done to Class 2 for being such fantastic representatives of our school - we're very proud of you all!

Class 4 were shocked when they returned from lunch yesterday to discover that the notorious Petrifying Place Value Gang had struck! The classroom had been turned upside down, with maths resources scattered everywhere and clues left behind at the scene of the crime. Our team of determined detectives sprang into action, striding across the playground in search of evidence. At each location, they uncovered place value challenges that needed to be solved in order to move the investigation forward. Using their fantastic mathematical skills, the young detectives carefully answered the questions and collected clues from confidential case files. As they pieced the evidence together, they worked collaboratively to eliminate suspects and narrow down the culprit. After some impressive detective work and excellent place value reasoning, Class 4 successfully solved the mystery and identified the member of the Petrifying Place Value Gang responsible for the classroom chaos! Well done, detectives. Case closed! ✅🔍

As part of their Enrichment Community Project, Class 5 had the wonderful opportunity to visit a local care home and spend some special time with the residents. Over the past few weeks, the young people have been busy creating a beautiful Autumn wreath especially for the residents. They carefully worked together to design and make the wreath, thinking about the colours and features that represent the Autumn season. On Friday, they were delighted to deliver their finished creation and present it to the residents. During their visit, the young people also enjoyed sharing one of their favourite activities with the residents by reading some of their favourite books aloud. It was lovely to see the young people and residents chatting, listening and enjoying each other's company. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for Class 5 to develop connections within their community, practise their communication and reading skills, and experience the joy that comes from giving their time to others. We are very proud of the kindness and enthusiasm they showed throughout the project.

Class 2 recently enjoyed an exciting shopping-themed activity as they explored the differences in clothing prices between M&S and Primark. The young people compared a range of items, looking carefully at how prices varied between the two shops and discussing what they noticed about the quality of the clothing. As well as developing their understanding of money and comparing prices, they practised an important everyday skill: finding the correct clothing size. They worked hard to locate different sizes on the rails and considered why choosing the right size is important when shopping. It was a fun and practical way for our young people to develop their mathematical and life skills while thinking about how price, quality and size can all influence our choices when buying clothes.

RSHE has made a healthy start here at Fairmead this September, with classes across the school learning about families and relationships and what they mean to them. Throughout the primary phase, young people have been thinking about the people who care for them and what these relationships look like. In Secondary, Key Stage 3 they have been exploring the characteristics of healthy relationships, while in Key Stage 4, learning has centred on understanding the role we play in our own relationships and how we can safely end relationships that we no longer wish to be in. Mrs Lewis and Mr Shepherd, our RSHE Leads, have loved visiting classes this week and taking part in learning across the school. They have enjoyed seeing young peoples' enthusiasm first-hand and sharing in their engagement.

September was a very exciting and busy month for Class 8! We took part in lots of different activities that helped us learn new skills, gain knowledge, and have fun together. One of the highlights was our life skills cooking activity. We learned how to prepare simple and healthy dishes, and everyone enjoyed working as a team in the kitchen. It was a great chance to practice independence and see how much fun cooking can be. Some of our classmates also took part in first aid training. Knowing these skills is really important, and it made us feel more confident about helping others in case of an emergency. In our history lessons, we gained a lot of new knowledge about World War II. Overall, September was packed with learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. We’re looking forward to seeing what October brings!

Wow! What a busy and exciting first two weeks we have had in Class 4! Our English work has really come to life as we have begun exploring our new book, The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer. Our adventure started when we received a postcard, which sparked lots of excitement and curiosity! We have created our own treasure maps, inspired by the map that the magpie stole in the story. Along the way, we have been learning how to use map keys to identify and locate local amenities. We have also discovered that, while searching for his map, the boy in the story landed in the desert in Ancient Egypt. This gave us the opportunity to learn all about desert environments. We even had some fun becoming mummies! Working in teams, we had to transform one of our classmates into a mummy. This was a fantastic opportunity to develop our teamwork, communication and listening skills - and there was certainly plenty of laughter along the way! As well as all our wonderful English learning, we have also been busy in RE. We shared the different celebrations that we already know about and discovered some new celebrations from a range of religions. We are now looking forward to using what we have learned to plan our very own celebration. What a fantastic start to the half term - we can't wait to see where our learning adventures take us next!

We’ve now been back at school for nearly two weeks, and we hope everyone has settled back into their new routines and classes. It’s been lovely to get the school year underway, and we’re looking forward to all the exciting learning, activities and experiences still to come. A huge well done to all the budding artists and crafters who joined our Secondary lunchtime Art Club this year. It has been wonderful to see so many young people bringing their creativity, enthusiasm and imagination to our weekly sessions. Despite our short lunchtime slots, we managed to fit in a fantastic range of projects throughout the year. From creepy stick bugs and spooky spider webs to beautiful stained glass leaves, there was always something new to create and explore. We experimented with air dry clay models, made Christmas decorations, festive houses and cards, designed pin badges and magnets, created spring wreaths and potted flowers, threaded beaded bracelets, and finished the year with a watercolour project inspired by something we love. (Along the way, we may have created a few more things too — there were so many brilliant ideas and projects that it’s hard to remember them all!) Everyone worked incredibly hard, developed new skills and, most importantly, had fun while exploring different materials and techniques. It has been fantastic to see confidence grow, ideas develop and individual creativity shine through. We hope Art Club has inspired you to keep making, crafting and being creative over the summer holidays. Whether it’s painting, drawing, building or trying something completely new, we hope you continue to enjoy the process of creating. It can sometimes be tricky to capture everything, as many artists are understandably keen to take their finished creations home as soon as they are complete - which is a lovely sign of how proud they are of their work! A huge thank you to everyone who supported Class 4’s sunflower project this year. The young people have loved seeing the photographs of your sunflowers and have enjoyed carefully measuring and ordering them to find out which ones grew the tallest. We were amazed by the fantastic results! The tallest sunflower in the primary category reached an impressive 170cm, while the tallest secondary sunflower grew to an incredible 210cm. The adult category was won by Miss Marks’ grandparents, whose sunflower measured a remarkable 229cm. We think this could be a world record! Miss Marks’ Nan was delighted to receive a phone call sharing the exciting news. Well done to everyone who took part, and a special thank you to Class 4 for their fantastic work organising and celebrating this wonderful project. We hope to see even more impressive sunflowers growing next year!

Young people from Classes 1–4 recently enjoyed an exciting visit to Hollywood Bowl as part of their Hobbies and Interests topic. The trip gave everyone the opportunity to develop confidence, social skills and teamwork while enjoying a fun activity together. There were plenty of cheers throughout the afternoon as the young people celebrated great shots and encouraged one another. Special congratulations go to our high scorers and two young people who hit strikes. More importantly though, every young person showed excellent sportsmanship, celebrated each other's successes and demonstrated the positive values that make Fairmead School such a supportive community. The smiles on everyone's faces showed just how much fun the day had been, and the visit provided another wonderful opportunity for our young people to learn through shared experiences beyond the classroom.
