Our football teams have enjoyed another fantastic season competing in the local schools' football league hosted at Strode College in Street. Both our Fairmead A Team and Fairmead B Team represented the school with determination, enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition. After a series of competitive fixtures, both teams finished in fourth place within their respective leagues. While everyone was pleased with the results, staff were even prouder of the way our young people demonstrated Fairmead's values during every match they played. The competition provided our. young people with valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, communication, resilience and confidence, while enjoying the excitement of representing their school against other teams from across the area. Congratulations to every player who took part. You were excellent ambassadors for Fairmead School and should all be incredibly proud of your achievements.

Our secondary life skills groups recently took part in a fun and informative assembly focusing on the importance of staying safe in the sun. The session explored simple but effective ways to protect ourselves during warmer weather, helping our young people understand how to enjoy the sunshine safely while looking after their health. The assembly covered key sun safety messages, including wearing a hat, applying sunscreen regularly, drinking plenty of water and finding shade during the hottest parts of the day. These practical tips help our young people develop important life skills that they can use both at school and at home. One of the highlights of the assembly was a surprise appearance from a member of staff dressed in a bright red "sunburn" morph suit. The fun visual demonstration certainly captured everyone's attention and helped reinforce the important message in a memorable and engaging way. At Fairmead we believe that learning is most effective when it's enjoyable, and this assembly was a fantastic example of combining education with plenty of smiles and laughter.

It has been a fun-filled and action-packed term as we have explored our Hobbies and Interests unit. We have enjoyed discovering new activities, sharing our own interests and developing confidence in trying new experiences. Our English texts have taken us mudlarking both in and out of school, where we have enjoyed exploring, investigating and sharing our discoveries. We have also been preparing to showcase our talents in a class talent show, giving everyone the opportunity to celebrate their unique skills and interests. Throughout the term, we have enjoyed a wide range of trips and activities with other classes, helping us to develop our social and communication skills while building friendships and creating shared memories. We have also had great fun using the LEGO Spikes and developing our understanding of capacity in Maths. This was particularly refreshing during the hot weather! Our enrichment sessions this half term have focused on trampolining, and we have loved developing our movement skills, confidence and coordination while enjoying plenty of bouncing fun. A huge achievement this term was our fantastic teamwork in making 300 sweet bags to sell at the Westlands football tournament. We worked incredibly hard together and were very proud of our contribution. Well done everyone for a brilliant term!

We have had a wonderfully busy, active, and sensory-filled summer term in Fox class, and everyone has coped brilliantly with the hot weather. In Life Skills, we have loved exploring our topic of Hobbies and Interests through crafts, cooking, cooperative games, and lots of active fun. We have continued to develop our independence and community skills, enjoying trips to new places, including the park and Montacute House, where the fishpond was a particular favourite. In English, we explored the funny story Tuesday by David Wiesner, following the adventures of some mischievous frogs! We retold the story using sensory resources, practised action words, built sentences using Colourful Semantics, and used communication boards to talk about the story. In phonics, we continued working hard on our Unit 2 and 3 sounds, we continue to love playing Sound Splat! In Maths, we continued to develop our understanding of patterns, sorting, counting, money, and recognising groups of objects without counting them individually. We hope everyone has a fantastic summer break, and we look forward to seeing all our young people enjoy their new classes in September.

This term, Squirrel Class has had a wonderful time exploring the story Farmyard Hullabaloo. We brought the story to life by using a green screen to make it look as though we were visiting a real farm! Each young person chose their favourite farm animal to appear behind them, and everyone loved seeing themselves surrounded by their chosen animals. We also explored animal habitats by creating our own artwork, thinking carefully about where different animals live. One of the highlights of the term was our visit to the animal park. We met lots of different animals and had a fantastic time learning about them. A particularly memorable moment was meeting a very friendly goose who came over to say hello – it certainly made us all smile! To finish our topic, we have been creating our own Animal Park book. The young people have enjoyed using everything they have learned this term to type their own page for the class book, showcasing their knowledge of animals. We are so proud of all the enthusiasm, creativity and fantastic learning Squirrel Class has shown throughout this topic. Well done, Squirrels!

Rabbit Class have had a wonderful term full of exciting shared experiences, exploration and a bit of sweat! We have loved getting stuck into sensory activities, from exploring different fruits and vegetables using all of our senses to rescuing animals trapped inside icy "icebergs". These hands-on experiences have encouraged curiosity, communication and plenty of problem-solving along the way. Stories and songs have been a big part of our learning, with Hole in the Bottom of the Sea and our Tricky Words songs becoming firm favourites. The young people thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in our class story through singing, small world play and lots of creative (and wonderfully messy!) artwork. It has been fantastic to see their confidence, imagination and engagement grow throughout the term. We are so proud of everything Rabbit Class have achieved this term. The progress they have made, the enthusiasm they bring to each day and the kindness they show one another have been a joy to see. We wish all of our families a happy, safe and relaxing summer break, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the new school year!

We are delighted to share that work on our Sensory Garden Project is continuing to make great progress. Over the past few weeks, the garden has really started to take shape, thanks to the hard work and support of our school community. We are especially grateful to our wonderful school volunteer, Steve Chorley, who has helped us make some fantastic improvements to the space. Steve has connected four new water butts, which will help us collect and store rainwater for sustainable use in the garden, as well as constructing two wooden compost bins to support our recycling and composting efforts. Another exciting development is that the main raised bed has now been planted with butterfly-friendly flowers. These beautiful plants will not only brighten up the garden with colour, but will also help attract butterflies and other pollinators, making the space even more vibrant and wildlife-friendly for everyone to enjoy. T he Sensory Garden is becoming a wonderful area for pupils to explore, learn and relax, and it is lovely to see it growing step by step. What’s next? Our next job is to treat the two main raised beds with wood preserver to help protect them and keep them in good condition for years to come. We look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues!

This term in Class 5, the young people have been sharing their favourite heroes and discussing what makes them special. This linked beautifully to our class text, Heroes: Incredible True Stories About Courageous Animals. The class have thoroughly enjoyed listening to inspirational stories of heroic animals and then researching them further. As part of their writing, each young person selected an animal story, adapted an aspect of it, and rewrote it in their own creative way. In Art, Class 5 have been busy celebrating global pride. They have painted a range of flags, explored global patterns, and had great fun experimenting with paint. The class also couldn’t resist joining in with the excitement of the football season, creating and decorating England flags to brighten up our classroom windows - Come on England! In Humanities, the focus has been on water, where it comes from and the importance of rivers around the world. To spark curiosity, the young people took part in a fun ‘hook’ activity where they closed their eyes and guessed what had been placed in their hands… something very cold! This engaging activity was a big hit and helped launch their learning with enthusiasm.

The Dorset residential last week was an absolute blast! From the moment the group arrived, there was a real sense of excitement and adventure. The young people quickly settled in and embraced everything the trip had to offer, showing confidence, curiosity, and teamwork throughout their stay. Across the three days, they took part in a range of new experiences and challenges, trying activities that pushed them out of their comfort zones and helped them build important life skills. Whether it was working together in groups, developing independence, or simply having a go at something new, everyone made fantastic progress in their own way. There were plenty of big laughs along the way too. Shared meals, evening activities, and time spent together helped create a strong sense of community within the group. Staff were incredibly proud of how supportive the young people were of one another, celebrating each other’s successes and encouraging their friends throughout. Most importantly, the trip created memories that will last long after returning to school. For many, it was a chance to grow in confidence, build friendships, and experience a different environment away from the classroom setting. The Dorset residential was a real highlight of this school year - full of achievement, positivity, and moments that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Forget the World Cup – last Friday, the biggest football match around was taking place right here at Fairmead! In a highly anticipated showdown, staff and young people went head-to-head on the pitch in a match that had everyone talking. The atmosphere was fantastic as supporters gathered to cheer on their teams. The young people came out full of energy and determination, but the staff team showed that experience counts for something, securing a 4-1 victory. The young people’s goal came from Stanley, who, in Mr Smith’s words, scored “a beauty of a goal that passed me” - a strike that gave the young people their moment of glory! A huge thank you goes to Mr Rowan, who did a brilliant job as referee. With so much excitement on the pitch, he kept the game running smoothly and ensured the contest was played in great spirit. There were moments of skill, moments of drama and, no doubt, a few moments that will grow even more impressive each time they're retold around school! Will the young people be back for revenge? Can the staff defend their title? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain - Fairmead's football fever is well and truly alive! Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make the event such a memorable occasion.

Before half term, Class 4 enjoyed visiting one of their classmates during their work experience placement at Goldenstones Leisure Centre. The young people were keen to explore the range of activities and facilities available at the centre and enjoyed learning more about how it operates. During the visit, the young people were particularly impressed by their classmate’s knowledge and confidence when talking about the centre and the responsibilities involved in the role. The placement has provided a valuable opportunity to develop workplace skills, gain experience in a community setting, and build confidence for the future. It was wonderful to see our school values being demonstrated throughout the placement, with a positive attitude, commitment, and enthusiasm on display. The experience has been a great example of aspiration in action and highlights the exciting opportunities available as young people prepare for their future pathways.

Class 4 recently enjoyed an exciting trip to Ham Hill, where their learning about the Iron Age was brought to life. The young people explored the new visitor centre, engaging with a range of interactive exhibits that helped deepen their understanding of local history and the lives of people who lived in the area thousands of years ago. The visit also included a walk to the monument, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and take in the beautiful surroundings. As part of our Hobbies and Interests unit, the young people have been exploring places of interest within their local community and discovering new ways to spend their leisure time. Ham Hill proved to be the perfect destination, combining opportunities to learn about Somerset’s rich heritage with the wellbeing benefits of being outdoors and spending time with friends. It was a fantastic day of learning, exploration and enjoyment for everyone involved.
