✨ A huge thank you to Jenny Salmon from the Careers Hub for joining us today and presenting our school with the runner‑up prize in the Go‑Pro WEX competition! We’re so proud of our young people and grateful for the support. 🙌🎉

Class 4 visited the Gateway Café to see Szymon in action on his work experience placement and find out about the different jobs that café workers have to do.

Szymon did a fantastic job of welcoming us to the café, serving us our drinks and cakes, and keeping the café clean. Class 4 and all the staff are very proud of him.

It was also a wonderful surprise to be joined by Mrs Felstead, Mrs Barratt, Mrs Berryman and Miss Marks!

✨ Fox Class Spring 2 Round‑Up! ✨

What a whirlwind of a term! 🌱💼
We’ve been busy building our Employability life skills — from confident communication to recognising helpers in our community. Careers Day was a huge hit too… we loved dressing up and exploring different jobs!

Our enterprise project is underway as we grow and care for our own plants, ready to sell once they bloom 🌿💧

📚 English
‘The Gigantic Turnip’ has brought so much joy — sensory play, story mapping, colourful semantics and even creating our own versions of the tale. World Book Day was full of stories, costumes and sharing books with friends.

🔢 Maths
We explored patterns using colours, shapes and sounds, and continued practising counting and using money in real-life situations.

🛒 Community Adventures
Weekly trips helped us practise greeting shop staff and learning about their roles. We even interviewed staff at Pets at Home and Morrisons — favourite jobs included caring for animals and helping customers!

📖 Library Visits
Our confidence is growing each week. We’re choosing books independently, using our library cards responsibly and returning books with care.

🌻🌻Class 4 have showed amazing teamwork whilst working on their enterprise project this half term. They have collected and cleaned pots, purchased and bagged compost, created artwork, written instructions and packaged their kits beautifully!

Thank you to everyone that has supported this project, the young people are excited to see your sunflowers in the summer. Thanks also go to Marjorie at Sunflowers of Somerset for kindly donating the sunflower seeds.

The whole class team are incredibly proud of the young people for their work on this project. 🌻🌻

Class 1 have been exploring a wide range of job roles and workplaces, building their understanding and confidence of the world of work. A highlight this term was an exciting visit to Barclays bank, where the young people were given a sneak peek of the upstairs offices. One student even stepped into role-play mode, confidently pretending to deliver financial advice over the phone!

Back in the classroom, the young people have been strengthening their social and teamwork skills through fun turn-taking activities and group games. These sessions have been a great way to encourage communication, collaboration, and confidence. Our up-and-coming chef continues to impress with their growing confidence in the kitchen, preparing a variety of delicious recipes. This chef has been a multi-tasking master, managing to cook sweet and sour noodles whilst making a bed at the same time!

Safer internet day - In February, Fairmead participated in Safer Internet Day with an exciting focus on the world of AI. It sparked some fascinating conversations as we explored how much time we really spend on screens, how we present ourselves online, and the benefits and challenges that artificial intelligence brings to our lives. One of the most eye-opening parts was discovering just how often we interact with AI without even realising it — from self-checkout machines in shops, to predictive text on our phones, and even the directions we follow on Google Maps. It’s been a great opportunity to think more carefully about the digital world around us and how we can use it safely and responsibly.

Class 2 - This half term, we’ve been busy becoming future superstars by learning all about employability — that means thinking about jobs and skills for when we grow up! We’ve discovered some of our favourite places ever, especially when it comes to books. 📚 From exciting stories at the library to amazing shelves at Waterstones, we loved exploring and can’t wait to go back again! But that's not all… we also went on a trip to our local garden centre! 🌼 There, we practised using money and learned more about the people and places in our community.

Badger Class had the best time at the cinema on Tuesday! 🍿✨
Smiles, excitement, and plenty of popcorn — the perfect mix for a brilliant day out. So proud of how beautifully they represented our school and how much joy they brought to the trip. 🎬💛

Lights, Camera, Action!

Class 5 Visit the Cinema.

On Tuesday 24th March, Class 5 enjoyed an exciting trip to Cineworld to watch Pets on a Train. The visit provided a fantastic, hands-on experience to support our current English unit on recounts. By immersing themselves in the magic of the big screen, the young people now have a shared experience to draw upon as they practice retelling events in chronological order.
The verdict from the young people? The film was a huge hit, receiving an enthusiastic "thumbs up" across the board!

We look forward to seeing their adventures translated into some brilliant writing back in the classroom.

Class 5 explores the wanders of Japan for Duke of Edinburgh Day.

On Wednesday 11th March, Class 5 embarked on an immersive cultural journey as part of our Duke of Edinburgh Day celebrations. Following their previous explorations of Australia and Poland, the young people turned their attention to the rich traditions of Japan.

The day was filled with creativity and discovery. The young people delved into the symbolism of the cherry blossom tree before painting their own beautiful interpretations, which are now brightening up our classroom display.

The excitement continued into PE, where the class tried out traditional Japanese activities. A particular highlight was the high-stakes tug of war, where the young people’s teamwork led them to a triumphant victory against the adults! To round off the physical activities, the young people practiced Tai Chi, following the rhythmic movements of 'The Tale of a Dragon'. The day concluded with a deep dive into the world of Pokémon and Anime—a huge hit that left everyone inspired by Japan’s modern pop culture.

🥎🎾Deer Class have been having a fantastic time attending their weekly tennis coaching sessions at Yeovil Tennis Club. Each week, the children head to the courts full of enthusiasm, ready to practise their skills and learn new techniques from the coaches.

Through fun games and exciting drills, the pupils are developing their coordination, teamwork, and confidence. It’s been wonderful to see how much progress they’ve made already—from mastering basic racket control to successfully rallying.

The sessions are always full of smiles, energy, and encouragement, and the children look forward to returning every week. A big thank you to the coaches at Yeovil Tennis Club for making the sessions so enjoyable and inspiring! 🎾🥎

✨ As part of Children’s Mental Health Week in February, our signing choir took on Fight Song — and absolutely shone. Their hard work and determination linked beautifully with our school value of resilience.

✨ Role‑play morning with the Squirrels! ✨
Squirrel class spent a morning during primary careers week stepping into the shoes of the amazing people who help us every day — and safe strangers we can trust.

We had doctors, postal workers, chefs, cleaners, and shop keepers bustling around, each one fully committed to their role. The creativity was amazing and the teamwork was even better.

So proud of this brilliant bunch.

Classes 1–4 had the most fantastic visits throughout March, and we’re still buzzing from all the bookish fun. The young people loved listening to brilliant stories, exploring the shop, and even getting a peek behind the scenes at the till.

It was such a wonderful chance to discover what it’s like to work in a bookshop and to see the magic that brings stories to life.

Our Year 9s spent a recent project day exploring signs of spring around the school grounds — little glimmers of hope for warmer (and hopefully drier!) days ahead. 🌱🌼

After learning how spring transforms the world around us, pupils channelled their creativity to write their very own Spring Song. While everyone helped craft the lyrics, Aaron truly shone! 🌟

He rehearsed and performed alongside Mrs Anderson, bringing the song to life with a beautifully uplifting performance. 🎤💛

We investigated IT, got hands‑on as apprentice builders, and explored what it’s like to be a fire person. So much curiosity, imagination, and fun all in one day! 🐰✨

✨ Rabbit Class Loved World Book Day! 📚🐰
Last week, Rabbit Class had the most fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! The children arrived bursting with excitement — and in the most brilliant costumes inspired by their favourite stories. Diving into imaginative activities, the class embraced every moment.

✨ Class 3 had the BEST morning at Huish Park last week! ⚽️💚
As part of their employability unit, many of our students shared an interest in becoming footballers — and Yeovil Town FC were amazing in helping bring that to life.

The class enjoyed:

• A Q&A with Josh Staunton
• A behind‑the‑scenes tour of the ground
• Even a turn at stadium announcing! 🎤

They also met the U19 Academy Team, who shared their own football journeys and inspired our young people even more.

✨ World Book Day Throwback! ✨
Last week, Class 5 got creative with watercolour paints, designing their very own bookmarks as part of our World Book Day celebrations. 🎨📚
Such a lovely way to blend art with a love of reading!

Class 1 loved exploring different careers in RSHE last week! 👷‍♂️👮‍♀️👩‍🍳
Our young people had so much fun trying on a range of work uniforms and using role play to discover how jobs work and how people earn money. 💼✨

This term in Rabbit Class we’ve been diving into our story 'We All Go Travelling By' — and yes, the catchy song has definitely made its way home! 🎶

We’ve been exploring all kinds of transport through hands‑on, playful learning. From bikes, trains and cars to small‑world adventures, the children have loved acting out their own journeys. We even got creative with paint and wheels, making colourful car‑track art.

It’s been a joyful term full of singing, exploring and imagination. We’re so proud of how brilliantly Rabbit Class have joined in 💛

✨ World of Work Week Spotlight! ✨
Badger Class had an incredible time on Friday when the wonderful Natalie popped in to share her passion for dance 💃🕺
Natalie teaches people of all ages, and in sharing all about her career she also treated our young people to an exciting taster session filled with energy, rhythm and lots of smiles.
Safe to say… they had an absolute blast! 🎉

Class 4 had a brilliant morning exploring the different roles at Westlands Entertainment Venue. Martin, the Marketing Manager, gave us an excellent tour of the facilities. The young people were eager to get involved—they set up tables, changed a poster, and restocked flyers and brochures. A huge thank‑you to all the staff at Westlands for making us feel so welcome!

This week we’ve been exploring what makes our school library special and how it differs from the library in town. The young people loved browsing the shelves, choosing books independently, and even reading aloud to a small audience — just like real storytellers. 🌟

They’ve been stepping into the role of presenter for our Special Mention assemblies — practising confident body language, clear voices, and fantastic reading skills. 🌟📖

✨ We had a very special visitor on Wednesday! ✨
Our Life Skills classes were joined by a wonderful dental nurse who taught us all about keeping our teeth healthy and strong.

🦷 The young people loved listening to a fun story all about teeth and learned why brushing every day makes such a big difference.
🪥 They even got hands‑on and practised their brushing technique — future brushing experts in the making!
🍎 We also explored which foods help keep our smiles bright and which are best saved as occasional treats.

A huge thank you for such an engaging and informative session — our young people absolutely loved it! 💙

✨ Learning Beyond the Classroom in Class 1! ✨

Our young people in Class 1 have been busy exploring both our Fairmead community and the wider world around them. 🌍
During recent trips, they had the chance to spot a variety of professionals at work — gaining real insight into different careers within our local community. 👮‍♂️👩‍🍳👨‍🔧

Back at school, the learning didn’t stop! Students shared their brilliant ideas about the many roles adults play at Fairmead — with suggestions ranging from using laptops… to playing with dinosaurs! 🦕💻

One of the highlights was speaking directly with professionals, asking thoughtful questions, and discovering what people enjoy most about their jobs. And of course, our enthusiastic future zookeeper loved sharing her incredible knowledge about animals and pets! 🐾

So proud of Class 1 and their curiosity, confidence, and creativity. 🌟

Class 3 have been busy sharpening their cooking skills during their Wednesday enrichment sessions! 🥕🍎🍕
