Football training has been continuing in school with the support of Westlands FC , and the sessions have been a fantastic opportunity for our young people to develop their skills and confidence. The Westlands FC coaches have been bringing their expertise into school, delivering high-quality training that has focused on improving technique, teamwork and understanding of the game. Young people have been working hard to practise key football skills such as passing, dribbling, positioning and shooting, while also learning the importance of communication and fair play. The sessions have been enjoyable, challenging and motivating, helping everyone to make clear progress. Thanks to the continued support from Westlands FC, we are steadily improving our football performance and preparing with confidence for the new season ahead. We are excited to see these skills put into action in upcoming matches and competitions!

We have been very lucky to welcome Damian and Sean from the Somerset Cricket Foundation into school to work with our young people on developing their cricket skills this half term. Their sessions have been a fantastic opportunity for young people across the school to learn more about the game, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun. Classes 1 and 2 have been busy learning how to play table cricket, developing key skills such as teamwork, hand-eye coordination and taking turns. Meanwhile, the young people in Classes 3 and 5 have been learning how to play cricket, practising batting, bowling and fielding skills while gaining a better understanding of the rules of the game. Each week, a Player of the Week  was chosen to celebrate effort, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship, which has been a wonderful way to recognise the young people's hard work and positive attitudes. A huge thank you to Damian and Sean for their engaging and inspiring coaching. The children have loved the sessions, and we are all looking forward to putting these new skills into action - bring on the cricket tournaments in the New Year!

This half term has been another busy and exciting one for Class 3. As part of our Independent Living Skills unit, we have placed a strong focus on pet care. This linked perfectly with our English text, The Appletree Animal Agency – Collie Chaos , where we have been learning about rehoming animals and ensuring pets are matched with the right owners. These discussions helped us to write our own non-chronological reports. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about different types of pets and loved sharing photos of our own pets with the class. This topic also gave us the opportunity to go on some fantastic trips. We especially enjoyed our visits to Southern Aquatics, where we saw a terrapin just like the one in our story, and Ferne Animal Sanctuary, where we met a wide variety of animals. In PE, we have been very lucky to have Sean from the Somerset Cricket Foundation visiting school to teach us new cricket skills, which we have really enjoyed. Alongside this, we have continued to practise important life skills, including changing a bed, mopping, hoovering and sweeping. During Science lessons, we have been using the sensory garden to learn about plant care and how to look after our environment. As Christmas approaches, we have also been busy practising our narration for the school nativity and are very much looking forward to sharing it with you soon.

Class 4 have been getting into the festive spirit over the past couple of weeks. During our visit to B&Q, the young people had great fun wrapping a Christmas tree that was kindly donated to us by the wonderful team there – thank you so much! A huge thank you as well to all the staff at Clarks Village for being so welcoming. We especially enjoyed meeting Erica from Guest Services, who showed us how to wrap a Christmas gift, with one of our young people adding a bow as the perfect finishing touch. We’re sure you’ll agree that our class Christmas tree looks absolutely fabulous!

Working with apprentices from Leonardo’s, Class 8 have been getting hands-on with the fascinating world of aerodynamics as they work toward an exciting end goal: building a fully functional glider . To kick off the project, the young people have been investigating what really makes an aircraft fly. From lift and drag to stability and control, they’ve been exploring the science behind how air moves around different shapes. One of the most enjoyable parts of the process so far has been designing and testing paper aeroplanes . By experimenting with different wing shapes and folding techniques, they are discovering which designs glide the furthest and stay the steadiest - valuable insights that will help them choose the best shape for their final glider. The room has been filled with creativity, curiosity, and plenty of laughter as each new design takes flight. With every test throw, they’re learning more about how small changes can make a big difference in performance. This practical, playful approach is helping build a strong foundation for the more complex engineering challenges ahead. We can’t wait to see their ideas take shape as the glider project continues to soar!

Wow, what a busy Autumn term! In Fox class we have continued to explore our Life Skills curriculum, focusing on 'Independent Living' skills. We have visited various shops, continuing to follow adult instructions and carefully reading our shopping lists to buy items for cooking, and to make Christmas presents for our families. You will have to wait and see what they are!  Back in school, during our life skills lessons, we have used the ingredients make simple snacks, from bagels to beans on toast. We carefully followed step by step instructions and continued to stay safe in the kitchen. Then really enjoyed tasting them when they were cooked! We have also continued to build our skills in independence through personal care and cleaning activities. In English we have explored the text 'How to wash a woolly mammoth' and have been building sentences using colourful semantics and sequencing activities.  We continue to enjoy our Maths Bucket sessions, taking part in a range of activities including looking at shape, measure and number.  Fox class had lots of fun dressing up on Careers day, and all really enjoyed our Pantomime 'Doctor Dolittle', it was very funny! On 8th December, Fairmead School was filled with excitement as we hosted a Music Live  event. Young people across the school had the opportunity to enjoy live music and experience the energy and atmosphere that comes with it. We loved listening to the musicians perform and learning more about different sounds and rhythms. One of the highlights of the day was having the chance to try out the instruments ourselves. Some young people even had a go on the microphone, we all discovered how much fun making music can be. The event was a fantastic experience that inspired creativity, confidence and a love of music. A big thank you to everyone involved in making Music Live  such an enjoyable and memorable event for our school community!

November was a busy month for Class 8. The young people thoroughly enjoyed all the activities around Cake Sale Day and we proudly celebrated November 11th, a day of remembrance. We had an amazing day out with two other classes in Yeovil Town Centre. The young people had the opportunity to ask questions to one of our local council representatives, who kindly took time out of their day to meet with us. We also visited several churches and expanded our knowledge of the town's history and its future. In English, the young people gained confidence in speaking and independent thinking by participating in a "teenage advice office" activity. This will be especially useful for some of them in the upcoming exams. We’re also very proud to share that some of our young people have started their work experience. Well done to them for taking this important step! This term, our Life Skills activities have mainly focused on safe behaviour around roads and following directions. These skills are crucial in helping our young people stay safe and become more independent.

Who said maths has to be all worksheets? Class 2 took our addition and times tables practice to the next level - using UNO cards! Yes, the same colourful cards we usually play to see who can yell “UNO!” the fastest became our tools for practising maths. How it works Each young person drew (at least) two cards from their pile. If we were working on addition , we simply added the two numbers together. If it was multiplication time , we multiplied the numbers instead. Why it’s so fun Using UNO cards turns maths into a game - and when maths feels like a game, everyone gets involved! It encourages quick thinking Helps build confidence And best of all, it makes learning feel like play , not work. The best part? The young people didn’t even realise how much learning  they were doing… because they were having too much fun! So next time you’re practising your addition or multiplication at home, grab a deck of UNO cards and give it a try. Maths + Games = A perfect match!

This term, the young people in Deer Class have been learning all about skeletons, muscles, and how our bodies move. We talked about why we need bones, how they protect our organs, and how muscles work together to help us run, jump and play. Everyone had the chance to cut out and assemble their very own paper skeleton. The tricky part was remembering where each bone belonged - and even trying to recall some of the scientific names! There was lots of great teamwork, careful thinking, and plenty of giggles as the children worked out which piece was the arm, leg, ribcage, or skull. The class did an amazing job, and now we have a wonderful display of skeletons showing just how much Deer Class have learned about the human body.

The young people in Class 1 took part in a fun cooking project that combined creativity, teamwork, and practical skills. They began by suggesting different lunch meals they would like to make. After sharing their ideas, everyone voted to choose the most popular dish. Next, the young people worked together to write a shopping list of all the ingredients they would need. They checked quantities, thought about costs, and made sure everything was planned out carefully. Then it was off to the shops! The young people found and bought their ingredients before heading back to school to start cooking. In the kitchen, they followed the recipe step by step, and worked as a team to prepare their meal. The room was full of lovely smells and happy chatter as everyone helped out. Finally, they sat down together to enjoy the food they had made - and it tasted amazing! This activity gave our young people a great chance to build their confidence, learn new cooking skills, and experience the joy of making and sharing a meal together.

Rabbit Class have had a wonderful start to the school year and have truly embraced all that Autumn Term 1 has to offer! This term, we’ve loved exploring the changing seasons through lots of hands-on sensory activities. The spots of rain have been a highlight for many — giving us plenty of chances to splash in puddles during outdoor learning (sometimes with wellies… sometimes without!). The children enjoyed feeling the rain on their hands and feet, listening to it fall, and watching it run down windows. We are so proud of how well Rabbit Class have settled in and can’t wait for more autumn adventures after half term!
