Work is progressing well in the Sensory Garden, The pagoda was repaired in the summer holidays, new raised planters have been made and filled with fresh topsoil and the first coat of paint has been completed on the pagoda.    Thank you to the staff who stayed on after the school day had finished, to get this done before winter. We also had a generous donation from one family who purchased us two new wheelbarrows. Thank you!  On 13 th  November we are having a Sponsored Obstacle Run at Fairmead and a Bake Sale, please support the event generously as the money raised will enable us to continue work on the project which, when completed, will be a great asset to the school.

Wow! What a fantastic start to the year we have had! The young people have enjoyed lots of trips, dived into the world of The Twits, explored money and developed their independent living skills; it has certainly been a busy half term!  Despite their initial groans, the young people have discovered that doing the washing up is ok! They have made toast, crumpets, cereal, hot and cold drinks, and enjoyed sharing these experiences with their classmates.  The young people in class 4 have been aspirational in their learning, and considerate of one another. We're all very proud of them.

This half term, Badger Class have been busy exploring the fascinating topic of the human body in Science. They have worked hard to understand how our skeleton protects important parts of the body and supports us as we move. A highlight of the topic was creating handprint models using paper and string to show how our muscles work together to help us move!

It has been a busy start for class 3 as we began our independent living unit. We have enjoyed lots of class outings to a variety of different shops including supermarkets, a DIY store and a pet shop. Our class book 'Happy to Help' by Tom Gates has had us completing a variety of different household tasks including washing windows, sweeping leaves and laundry. Maths has helped us learn about best before dates and the correct storage of food as well as number skills. We have also thoroughly enjoyed tennis coaching at Yeovil tennis club as part of our PE lessons.

In Life Skills, we have been focusing on cooking, and everyone has really enjoyed the sessions — hopefully remembering some of the delicious recipes we made! Class 8 also joined a school trip to Chard, where we discovered lots of fascinating places connected to World War II. In PE, we have started planning activities that can be used with younger classes — a great way to share our ideas and teamwork. It’s safe to say it’s been a busy and exciting term for Class 8!

Class 2 have been continuing to explore how a library works and how to find the books we need. This week, we focused on using the shelf labels to help us locate non-fiction books linked to our next English topic. Everyone worked carefully to identify where different types of books belong and how to use the library system to find information independently. We also continue to enjoy our time in the library by choosing and reading books that match our own interests. It’s wonderful to see so many enthusiastic readers discovering new stories and facts each week!
