In Fox class this term we have been very busy exploring our Life Skills curriculum. Our focus is ‘Independent living’, so we have been practising skills for independence, including being safe when out in the community, cooking, shopping and cleaning.

We have visited a range of different shops, where we have followed adult instructions and helped to read shopping lists to buy ingredients to cook with. We’ve enjoyed looking at all the different items we can buy in shops, and it is always exciting to go out in the people carrier!

It has been tricky at times to stick to only picking up the items on our shopping lists and to wait in the queue to pay for our shopping, but the adults have been very proud of how sensible and safe Fox class have been when out in the community!

When back at school, we have loved using our ingredients to cook with, making yummy toast and delicious pizzas! We always remember to wash our hands before we cook, and to make sure we are safe in the kitchen.

We have also been exploring different ways we can keep our environments clean, including sweeping, hanging washing and even washing the Fox class windows!

Next half term we will be continuing to practice these skills and even make our own ‘How to...’ class book to give people instructions for a range of life skills tasks.
