Making memories
Over the past few years students from Fairmead School have had a number of volunteering opportunities from helping the local School in a Bag charity, supporting a local care home through a community action project and helping out at school.
School in a Bag
Each winter this local charity have a Pop Up shop in Yeovil town centre where student attend on a number of days each week to support with the running of the shop. Students move and replenish the stock, prepare items ready to be made up into school bags which then pack ready to be distributed. On the back of their successful work in the shop students were invited to the charity's music festival site where they helped clear and pack up the site following the festival. These activities not only provide students with an excellent experience of work but also support a great local charity.
Community Action Project
In November 2019 as part of their National Citizenship Service a group of students from the school attended a local care home as part of a week long project to update their garden. Tasks included clearing and raking as well as digging and planting and making and putting up bird houses.
Work at School
As part of the students Duke of Edinburgh Award they are able to volunteer around the school. Students have taken part in gardening, tidying and maintenance as well as jobs like creating and delivering flyers for the schools summer fair.
