Aspirational Volunteers Event (AVE)
Following the success of our Aspirational Careers Event week we also felt there was an opportunity to explore the roles volunteer organisations play in our local community. In this week long event a number of local volunteer organisations attend the school offering students practical hands on experiences as well as a wealth of information about how to go about volunteering now and in the future. Previous supporters of this event include: Abbey Radio, Samaritans, RSPCA, Lofty Therapy Horses, Spark Somerset, St Margret’s Hospice, School in a Bag, EUCAN, Centre for Sustainable Energy and Avon and Somerset Police.
For a number of our students the opportunity to look at volunteering organisations as a route into employment and/or as part of their adult lives is really valuable and the volunteer organisations input into the event was really enriching for the students.
Although our planned 2020 event had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic we hope to run this event again in the summer term where be will be able to build on the success of our first event.
