Some of our KS4 students came together with students at Yeovil College as part of an exciting art project called Nature Calling which aims, by working with lots of schools and community groups, to build a huge giant in our local landscapes based on the game of consequences.
Last week students met with local artists and members of Dorset National Landscapes. We explored the Cerne Abbas giant, looking at the local landscape and wildlife for inspiration.
This Tuesday the artists visited Fairmead and students played a game of consequences, a game where each person draws a head, the page is folded, the paper is passed on and in turn a body, legs and feet are added by different drawers. Finally the art work is revealed, as you can see we had some wonderfully creative creatures!
On Thursday the students went to Kingcombe Visitors Centre to create pieces of art using natural materials. A fun time was had by all and some fantastic artwork made to be included in the final giant’s head.
The giant will be revealed in September, firstly at Cerne Abbas (next to the chalk giant), it will then come to Yeovil, Summerhouse Hill and then move on to Corfe Castle.
Dates for these events will be shared later in the year. If you would like to read more about the project please visit https://www.radicalritual.co.uk/rituals
