Fairmead School

Making memories

A Very Royal Opening

On Friday 22nd October we were really honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to Fairmead School to open our new building 'The Sycamore Building'.

We also welcomed other special guests for the morning, including our local MP, mayor and members of the local councils.

Before the Princess arrived, our guests were treated to a coffee morning run by the prefects and a tour of the school, experiencing the wonderful learning that pupils were engaged in.

Everyone was very excited when Her Royal Highness drove into the car park and Mrs Felstead felt honoured to welcome the Princess to our school. Princess Anne then had a tour of the school, witnessing the terrific activities that pupils were engaged in including a dissection in science, a pumpkin lift in Maths and met the Sports Captain in the new sports hall. Her Royal Highness was also able to experience the amazing new Immersive Room that Badger class were using. Pupils were able to go on a journey with Princess Anne from outer space to riding horseback with the touch of a button.

On the playground, Miss Harding led the choir in a performance of ‘This is Me’ from pupil favourite film ‘The Greatest Showman’, and Alfie and Maddie presented The Princess Royal with a gift of art created by Lillie-Rose. Before embarking on her next engagement, the Princess unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit and officially opened our wonderful new facilities.

It was a very special and memorable day for the whole school, and the day was finished in true British spirit with a whole-school cream tea.
